Stats of the Day: Bryce sparks O in 0 at-bats

Harper scores four times and drives in a run for Nationals

Here are four interesting items from around the big leagues on Thursday …

• No. 3 hitter Bryce Harper walked four times and scored four runs, and cleanup man Ryan Zimmerman doubled twice and drove in four runs in the Nationals' 15-1 victory over the Braves. Harper's line (0-for-0, four runs scored, one RBI on a bases-loaded walk) made him the fourth player since 1914 to have a game with no official at-bats and at least four runs scored, joining Larry Doby ('51), Joe Morgan ('73) and Rickey Henderson ('89). Zimmerman, meanwhile, has driven in 71 runs in 92 games. The ratio of 0.77 RBIs per game is one that has only been reached by three players in franchise history (minimum 100 games): Tim Wallach (.80 in '87), Larry Walker (.83 in '94) and Vladimir Guerrero (.82 in '99, and .80 in 2000).

• Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and added a double to lead Colorado to an 11-3 victory over San Francisco. Gonzalez, who took over the outright National League lead with his 35 homers for the season, has hit 22 long balls since the All-Star break. Gonzalez's multihomer game was his second in a row and sixth this season. The Rockies team record for multihomer games is eight, shared by Andres Galarraga (1996), Walker ('97) and Todd Helton (2000).

• A night after dropping 12 runs on the Tigers, Kansas City defeated Detroit, 15-7. The two-game explosion marked the first time in Royals history the team had scored at least a dozen runs in back-to-back contests against the Tigers. Lorenzo Cain connected on his 14th home run and 50th extra-base hit of the season in the win. Paired with his 26 steals, Cain is the first Royals player to collect at least 50 extra-base hits and 25 steals since Carlos Beltran in 2003.

• Making his Major League debut, Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Seager was the fifth Dodgers player -- and first shortstop -- since 1914 to have a multihit, multi-RBI debut, joining Packy Rogers ('38), Frank Howard ('58), Chris Gwynn ('87) and Russell Martin (2006). The most recent big league shortstop to do this had been the Rockies' Josh Rutledge on July 13, 2012. Seager was the 17th shortstop since 1914 to accomplish the feat.
