Cardinals activate All-Star Matt Holliday from D.L.

Pitcher Nick Greenwood optioned to Memphis (AAA)

ST. LOUIS, Mo.  - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's series opening game against the New York Mets that they have activated All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday from the 15-day disabled list and optioned left-handed pitcher Nick Greenwood to Memphis (AAA).

Holliday, 35, who has been on the disabled list since suffering a right quadriceps strain on June 8, was ranked 4th in the National League in on-base pct. (.417) at the time of his injury and was batting .400 (4th in NL) with runners in scoring position.   Holliday, who is just one home run shy of 275 for his career, reached base safely in an NL record 45 consecutive games to begin the 2015 season.

In 52 games this season, Holliday is batting .303 with 3 HR's and 26 RBI.   Has voted a starter on the National League All-Star team for the first time in his career, but did not play due to injury. It was his 7th All-Star selection overall.
