Bourjos' baseball journey took him across country

Son of former player, Cards outfielder played in Illinois, Arizona before being drafted

Peter Bourjos, OF, Cardinals
Hometown: Park Ridge, Ill.

Peter Bourjos' father, Chris, didn't last long as a professional baseball player. He played 13 games with the Giants in 1980 and was out of the game several years later. But he always had a nose for baseball.

Chris Bourjos became a scout, first in 1984 with the Blue Jays, whom he worked with for close to 20 years. Peter was born in Park Ridge, Ill., but went to high school at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. Originally committed to Grand Canyon University, Bourjos was drafted out of high school and decided to go to school that fall.

But he wasn't selected by the Brewers, the team employing his father as a scout. Instead, the Angels picked Bourjos in the 10th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. He ascended through the system and played two full seasons with the Halos before being traded to the Cardinals after the '13 season.
