Cincinnati's Votto disciplined

Reds 1B Receives Two-Game Suspension, Will Appeal

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has received a two-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his inappropriate actions following his ejection in the bottom of the eighth inning of the Wednesday, September 9th game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Votto's suspension had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the Reds are to continue their home series against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to Votto will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
