Southpaw Lee reportedly given OK to throw
Former AL Cy Young Award winner missed all of 2015 due to elbow injury
Left-hander Cliff Lee, who missed all of 2015 with an elbow injury, received medical clearance and has been throwing, according to MLB Network and CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
Lee became a free agent when the Phillies declined their $27.5 million option and bought him out for $12.5 million. The 37-year-old will pitch in 2016 if he finds the right fit, agent Darek Braunecker told Heyman.
Lee has dealt with elbow injuries the past two seasons, making just 13 starts in 2014 before missing all of '15.
When healthy, Lee has proven to be one of the game's top pitchers. He is a four-time All-Star and was the 2008 American League Cy Young Award winner. Lee went 14-8 with a 2.87 ERA in 31 starts in 2013, his most recent full season.
Overall, Lee is 143-91 with a 3.52 ERA in 13 Major League seasons with the Indians, Phillies, Mariners and Rangers.
