Rockies' challenge misfires on tag play in first

DENVER -- The Rockies were hoping to end a rough first inning for starting pitcher Franklin Morales just a little earlier, but a challenge from manager Walt Weiss went unrewarded.

Umpires confirmed a safe call at third base on Lucas Duda's RBI single with two on and two out in the first inning. Duda singled to right fielder Charlie Blackmon, and Chris Young scored for a 3-0 Mets lead.

First baseman Ryan Wheeler cut off Blackmon's throw to the infield and fired to third to try to beat trail runner Anthony Recker. The tag play was close enough for Weiss to challenge, but a review confirmed that the call was correct.

Morales struck out the next hitter, Ruben Tejada, to end the inning, but Duda's hit was the Mets' fourth in a three-run frame.
