Coors to host DU, CC hockey game in 2016

DENVER -- One of collegiate hockey's top rivalries will be played outside at Coors Field. The Rockies announced that the University of Denver and Colorado College will meet in the first hockey game at Coors -- the "Battle on Blake" on Feb. 20, 2016.

The event will take place a week before the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche meet at Coors on Feb. 27, 2016, in an NHL Stadium Series game. It will also be the first time that DU and CC have met in an outdoor match.

The rivalry between schools that have been competitive nationally and produced multiple NHL players dates to 1950, with Denver 165-116-17 in 298 all-time meetings with the Tigers. DU swept the four-game series season in 2014-15 to reclaim the Gold Pan Trophy, which goes annually to the series winner.

More information on the "Battle on Blake," including ticketing info, will be announced at a later date.
