Hurler 13th in franchise history to throw shutout with no walks, at least 8 K's
Here are four interesting items from around the big leagues on Monday …
• In his third appearance since being acquired by Kansas City, Johnny Cueto produced a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks to beat the Tigers, 4-0. Cueto's line is the 13th shutout with no walks and at least eight K's in franchise history. The most strikeouts in a walk-free shutout for a Royals hurler is 10, done by Zack Greinke twice in 2009, Rich Gale once in 1978 and Mark Gubicza once in '86. Among the 55 pitchers with at least 300 innings since the start of the 2014 season, Cueto ranks third in ERA (2.36), second in ERA+ (158) and second in WHIP (0.949). Clayton Kershaw is the leader in all three categories.
• In the Angels' loss to the White Sox, Mike Trout's first-inning double gave the reigning American League MVP Award winner his 290th career extra-base hit. With it, Trout tied Jimmie Foxx for the fifth most for a player through his age-23 season. The four who remain ahead of Trout: Mel Ott (342), Alex Rodriguez (319), Ken Griffey Jr. (317) and Ted Williams (314). Each member of that quartet resides among the top 25 all time in career extra-base hits.
• In the Reds' 2-1 loss to the Padres, Jay Bruce connected on his 200th career home run. Bruce joined Adam Dunn (270), Frank Robinson (262) and Johnny Bench (212) as the only players in Reds history to reach 200 homers for the franchise through their first eight seasons. Bruce and Robinson also have 200 doubles. Bruce is the 39th player in history to have at least 200 doubles and 200 homers through his age-28 season. He is one of eight active players to do it, joining Rodriguez, Adrian Beltre, Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Mark Teixeira, Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun.

• In the Orioles' 3-2 victory over the Mariners, Zach Britton worked 1 2/3 innings for his 28th save of the season. In 2014, Britton recorded 37 saves and finished his year with a 0.904 WHIP. This season, his WHIP stands at 0.935. There are three left-handers in history to have multiple seasons with 30 saves and a sub-1.00 WHIP: Billy Wagner had five, Willie Hernandez had two and Aroldis Chapman entered the 2015 season with two. Wagner's five are tied for the fourth most for all pitchers, with Mariano Rivera's eight pacing all throwers.

• Pujols stands at 4,883 total bases. Williams is just ahead, at 4,884 (22nd most all time).
• David Ortiz needs one extra-base hit to tie Reggie Jackson (1,075) for 23rd all time. Ortiz is also has 1,598 RBIs. There are 33 players with at least 1,600.
