D-backs acquire SS Sean Jamieson in exchange for SS Stephen Drew

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have acquired shortstop Sean Jamieson from the Oakland A’s in exchange for shortstop Stephen Drew, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Jamieson, 23, hit .234 (105-for-449) with 25 doubles, 5 triples, 10 home runs, 49 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 118 games with Single-A Burlington this season. He ranked among the Midwest League leaders in walks (4th, 64) and runs scored (T-12th, 71).

The 6-foot-0, 193-pound right-hander is a career .234 (166-for-709) hitter with 34 doubles, 6 triples, 13 homers, 70 RBI and 52 stolen bases in 187 games over two Minor League seasons in the A’s organization. Jamieson received mid-season All-Star accolades in 2011 in the New York-Penn League and the Midwest League in 2012.

Jamieson was selected in the 17th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Drew, 29, batted .193 (26-for-135) with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 12 RBI in 40 games with the D-backs this season. He missed 137 games from July 21, 2011-June 26 with a fractured right ankle.

Drew, who was selected 15th overall in the 2005 draft, appeared in 773 career games with the D-backs, hitting .266 (776-for-2,917) with 176 doubles, 52 triples, 72 home runs and 333 RBI. He ranks among the all-time franchise leaders in triples (1st), hits (3rd), doubles (3rd), games played (4th), at-bats (4th), runs scored (5th, 393) and RBI (7th). Drew has played in 753 games at shortstop with a .978 career fielding percentage, both club records.
