D-backs activate Gosselin from disabled list

DENVER -- The D-backs activated infielder Phil Gosselin from the 60-day disabled list to take the place of right-hander Allen Webster, who was optioned to Triple-A Reno following Sunday's game.

Gosselin was acquired by the D-backs on May 20 in a deal that saw the D-backs trade highly-regarded pitching prospect Touki Toussaint and dump Bronson Arroyo's $10.1 million salary to the Braves.

At the time of the deal, Gosselin was on the DL after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left thumb that was injured earlier in May.

Gosselin was in the starting lineup at second base on Monday. He can play third and short as well as the outfield if needed, though he will primarily see time at second and third.

"I'm just excited to get back out there," Gosselin said. "The rehab, the games went well, the thumb feels good. I'm just ready to get out there and help the team get some wins."

Gosselin hit a combined .316 in 14 rehab games for Triple-A Reno, Class A Visalia and the Arizona League.

In 20 games with the Braves before the injury, he hit .325.

"My thumb, I haven't had any problems at all since I've been back," Gosselin said. "The biggest thing was getting my legs underneath me, playing two or three days in a row. I played three days in a row in the field in Reno right before this. I feel like I'm back to normal. I've basically just had my own little mini Spring Training. I'm ready to get going."

To make room for Gosselin on the 40-man roster the D-backs designated right-hander Kevin Munson for assignment.
