D-backs lose challenge amid eight-run frame

PHOENIX -- D-backs manager Kirk Gibson lost a replay challenge in the first inning against the Padres on Wednesday night, but it did not matter as his club went on to score eight runs in the frame en route to a 12-6 win at Chase Field.

Gerardo Parra, who was the second batter in the inning, hit a line drive that landed near the left-field foul line. Third-base umpire and crew chief Eric Cooper ruled the ball foul.

After a quick review, the call was ruled as stands, meaning there was not enough video evidence to overturn it.

Parra eventually hit a single and scored on Paul Goldschmidt's double that helped spark the eight-run uprising that knocked Padres starter Tim Stauffer out of the game.

"That's a tough at-bat," Goldschmidt said. "He loses what he thought was a double and then comes back and gets another hit."

Parra also hit a ground-rule double in his second at-bat of the inning as the D-backs sent 12 batters to the plate before Goldschmidt grounded out to end it.

Chase Anderson was staked to an 8-0 lead and became the first D-backs rookie to win his first three Major League starts.
