D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall to receive Torch Of Liberty Award tomorrow night from the Anti-Defamation League
PHOENIX - D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall will receive the prestigious Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti- Defamation League (ADL) tomorrow night during the non-profit organization's annual dinner. The award, ADL's highest honor, was established to recognize individuals who have exhibited extraordinary humanitarianism, and whose everyday actions exemplify the principles of opportunity, anti-discrimination, equal rights, community involvement and fairness for all.
"The Anti-Defamation League is proud to present the Torch of Liberty Award to Derrick Hall because his commitment to treating every person with dignity and respect is truly extraordinary," said Amy Altshuler, Board Chair for the Arizona Region of ADL. "His actions within the Diamondbacks organization, with the fans and throughout the community reflect his commitment to the fight against hate and a desire to provide opportunities for all kids in our community."
Hall has dedicated himself and the D-backs to advocacy, fairness, equality and opportunity for all. With baseball as the vehicle, his one-fan-at-a-time commitment to the people of Arizona has created an open, honest and free-flowing connection with the people who call Arizona home. He has extended a helping hand to fans dealing with debilitating illness, financial hardship and serious personal issues. His service to the Arizona non-profit community extends to more than 25 organizations with a passionate connection to children, education, hunger and cancer.
"I am deeply honored by this recognition from the Anti-Defamation League," said Hall, who serves on Major League Baseball's diversity committee and the Commissioner's on-field diversity task force. "We take great pride in celebrating diversity and equality at the Diamondbacks. This award is really a reflection of how well we as an organization treat all people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or gender, while promoting a world without hate and impacting our community as positively as possible each and every day."
In receiving the 43rd annual Torch of Liberty Award, Hall will join an extraordinary group of individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of our community. Past honorees include Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl and ASU President Michael Crow, among others, each of whom have made an indelible imprint on the quality of life and economic development of the Valley and the state of Arizona, providing strong leadership in all dimensions.
All proceeds from the Torch of Liberty Awards dinner benefit the ADL's Community Partnership to Fight Hate, which is an on-going battle to keep our community and state free from hate, bias, prejudice and discrimination.
This year's Dinner Chairs are APS President & CEO Don Brandt, Dignity Health Sr. Vice President of Operations in Arizona Linda Hunt and Weisz Ventures President George Weisz. Mo Stein of HKS Architects and his wife, Cathy, are the Chairs of the Tribute Journal.
