D-backs to present $100,000 grant for Boys & Girls Club at holiday party tomorrow

D-backs' $100,000 Grand Slam Grant will help renovate gym

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) will present a $100,000 Grand Slam Grant to the MLB All-Star Arizona Diamondbacks Boys & Girls Club during the annual D-backs Holiday Party tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. The grant will be used to help renovate the gym at the D-backs Boys & Girls Club, located just five miles from Chase Field.

D-backs employees will host nearly 450 kids and their families for the fifth annual D-backs Holiday Party tomorrow, after the grant presentation at 5:00 p.m. The kids will select toys, meet Santa, play games and make crafts at the event. The D-backs Boys & Girls Club is located at 548 W. Southern Avenue.

The D-backs grant will help renovate the gym into a multi-purpose sport court that will be used daily for team sports, fitness classes, career fairs, holiday celebrations, games and more. Some improvements include new flooring, paint, sound proofing and energy-efficient lighting.

The D-backs, Magical Builders and Major League Baseball invested $2 million into renovations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix during the 2011 MLB All-Star Game that was held in Phoenix at Chase Field. The renovations included a new games room, teen center, main entry, multi-use outdoor sports field, outdoor baseball field, restrooms, cafeteria, kitchen, youth media center, youth computer lab and building façade.

After the renovations in 2011, the club was renamed to The MLB All-Star Arizona Diamondbacks Branch, A Kieckhefer Family Legacy. The D-backs' club serves an at-risk youth population in South Phoenix and is an important destination for young people in the community. A fixture in the southwest Phoenix community for more than 50 years, the club serves more than 1,500 young people, many of whom live at or below the poverty level.
