D-backs trade Mcdonald to Pirates

The Arizona Diamondbacks traded infielder John McDonald to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named or cash considerations, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.

McDonald, 38, spent one and a half seasons with the D-backs after being acquired from the Blue Jays on August 23, 2011. In 89 games with the D-backs, he hit .230 (59-for-256) with 11 doubles, 6 homers and 24 RBI while seeing action at shortstop, second base and third base.

He has spent parts of 14 seasons in the Majors with the Cleveland Indians (1999-2004), Detroit Tigers (2005), Blue Jays (2005-11) and D-backs (2011-12). In 954 career games, he has hit .239 (547-for-2,289) with 102 doubles, 14 triples, 27 homers and 201 RBI. He owns a career .975 fielding percentage while playing in 555 games at shortstop, 205 at second base, 127 at third base and 6 in left field.
