Darling to remain part of Mets' broadcast team

NEW YORK -- Ron Darling has agreed to a multiyear extension to remain part of SNY's Mets broadcast team, the station revealed Thursday on its "Mets Hot Stove" show.

Darling, 53, has teamed with play-by-play man Gary Cohen and fellow color analyst Keith Hernandez since SNY's inception in 2006, analyzing the majority of New York's 162 games. He recently joined MLB Network to appear on offseason studio programming, and provides color commentary for postseason games on TBS.

SNY allows Darling to honor those commitments in addition to his work with the Mets.

"We have an amazing team," Darling said in August. "I honestly would find it very hard for me that I would not always be part of the Mets' broadcast. I would be very surprised if that ever, ever happened."

Before joining SNY, Darling spent one season as a color commentator for Nationals games on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. He joined SNY prior to the start of the '06 season.

"They gave me my start," Darling said of SNY. "Even though I started in Washington, people really believed in me here, helped me here. So I think that I'll have other opportunities. I think that SNY has been nice enough to allow me to have other opportunities, and I think I'll continue to do those, but it's very hard for me to see myself ever doing anything without SNY as the foundation."

Darling also pitched nine seasons for the Mets, going 99-70 with a 3.50 ERA and winning a World Series title in 1986.
