Coaches Magadan, Hawkins will not return
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers announced on Friday that hitting coach Dave Magadan and bullpen coach Andy Hawkins will not be returning in 2016.
Magadan and the Rangers made a mutual decision he would leave the organization to seek opportunities closer to his home in Florida. He has been the team's hitting coach for the past three seasons.
"First of all I would like to thank Dave for everything he gave this organization and these players," Banister said. "He showed up for work every day and was as prepared as you could be. I'm looking for a hitting coach who can come in, add value, creativity, the ability to communicate, and have a mindset with these hitters to increase the value of their tools."
Hawkins informed the club that he is resigning to pursue possible opportunities with other clubs. He has been Texas' bullpen coach for seven years, working closely with pitching coach Mike Maddux.
Maddux is among six coaches invited to return in 2016. The others are bench coach Steve Buechele, third-base coach Tony Beasley, first-base coach Hector Ortiz, assistant hitting coach Bobby Jones and field coordinator Jayce Tingler.
