Ortiz Children's Fund Gala slated for June 22

Slugger's charity provides health care for kids in New England, Dominican Republic

BOSTON -- Many fans have watched David Ortiz in action at Fenway Park. Far fewer have eaten dinner with the Red Sox slugger, but those who are able to support a charitable cause this summer have the opportunity to do just that.

On June 22, Ortiz will preside over the third annual David Ortiz Children's Fund Gala, which benefits the David Ortiz Children's Fund. The event features a Dominican-inspired three-course dinner and a guest list that includes Red Sox teammates Clay Buchholz, Shane Victorino and Koji Uehara, along with former Red Sox Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes.

In addition to the meal, attendees can look forward to live Latin music, a cocktail hour reception and a silent auction that will offer a host of memorabilia. The gala takes place at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

The DOCF, which has partnered with MassGeneral Hospital for Children along with the World Pediatric Project, works to provide health care for children both in New England and Ortiz's native Dominican Republic. To date, the charity has raised over $1.5 million and funded more than 200 life-saving heart surgeries for Dominican children.

Tickets can be reserved by visiting www.davidortiz.splashthat.com. General admission costs $450 per person or $800 for couples, while VIP tickets -- which include a baseball autographed by Ortiz and a photo opportunity -- cost $1,250 for a single or $2,250 for a pair.
