Robertson nominated for Marvin Miller Award
CHICAGO -- White Sox reliever David Robertson was honored to be selected as one of the three nominees for the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award, announced as part of the Players Choice Awards on Thursday. The Marlins' Dee Gordon and the Orioles' Adam Jones are also finalists.
Robertson, along with his wife, Erin, founded High Socks for Hope after tornadoes devastated his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., in 2011. This charity also helped those in Fairdale, Ill., who were affected by a tornado, including Robertson helping build a home on a White Sox off-day for a family that lost their residence.
"The more attention we get, the more people who follow us, the better chance of us getting more volunteer help, donations or anything that can help us move forward with our cause," Robertson said. "I'm excited about it, and hopefully this year it will happen."
This exemplary work also earned Robertson the White Sox nomination for the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award. No other White Sox player was part of the final Players Choice list presented on Thursday, with Chris Sale shut out of American League Outstanding Pitcher and Carlos Rodon left off the list for AL Outstanding Rookie.

• Rookie second baseman Micah Johnson underwent successful exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Thursday morning at Rush University Medical Center, as announced by the White Sox. During the procedure, which was performed by Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph, scar tissue was removed, and the knee was revealed to be structurally sound.
Johnson, who hit .230 with 10 runs scored and three stolen bases over 36 games for the White Sox this season, is expected to be ready for Spring Training without restrictions.
"It was the best news we could get," said manager Robin Ventura of Johnson, who tweeted out a post-surgery image of him playing video games. "It wasn't very substantial.
"There was some stuff in there that they cleaned up, but he definitely should be ready to go by Spring Training. He'll be ready earlier, but no lingering things for Spring Training."
