DeShields named Rangers Rookie of the Year
Outfielder to receive award on Jan. 22; tickets available
ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields has been selected as the Rangers Rookie of the Year in voting by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
DeShields was taken from the Astros in the Rule 5 Draft, made the big league squad in Spring Training and then eventually took over the starting job in center field. He hit .261 with 83 runs scored, 22 doubles, 10 triples, two home runs, 37 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. He had a .344 on-base percentage and a .374 slugging percentage, and finished seventh in the BBWAA American League Rookie of the Year Award voting.
DeShields will receive his award at the 2016 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Awards Dinner on Friday, Jan. 22 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
