Robinson, Heisey pace Reds' offensive surge

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Offense and power were not in short supply at Goodyear Ballpark on Tuesday. The Reds and White Sox combined for four home runs and some lengthy rallies in Cincinnati's 10-6 victory.

Left fielder Chris Heisey led the way for the Reds with a homer and four RBIs. Former Reds star Adam Dunn also had four RBIs for the White Sox, including a three-run homer.

It was the White Sox who jumped out to a quick 3-0 first-inning lead against Homer Bailey with Dunn's mammoth three-run homer off the center-field batters' eye. Cincinnati evened the score in the bottom of the first against left-hander John Danks as Heisey hit an RBI single and Todd Frazier hit a two-run single.

After the Reds added two more runs against Danks in the second inning, Chicago countered with two third-inning runs against Bailey, including Gordon Beckham's leadoff homer to left field.

The big damage came during a five-run bottom of the fourth in which 10 men batted. Heisey banged a three-run homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch and Jay Bruce made it back-to-back shots by hitting a 1-1 pitch that barely cleared the fence in right field.

"I felt like I was ahead in the count, but I just wasn't able to make that pitch," Danks said. "I don't think it was so much stuff as it was that I just wasn't ever able to make a good enough pitch to put them away. Give them some credit, they hit some tough pitches and fouled off some tough pitches and got it to where I would make a mistake and they'd hit it."

Danks left after allowing 10 earned runs and 11 hits, with two walks and no strikeouts, over 3 1/3 innings

"It would have been nice to have a good one today. I had anything but," Danks said. "I've got to keep plugging along."

Bailey gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits, with one walk and five striketouts, over 4 1/3 innings.

"I was feeling good. That's the most important thing," Bailey said. "Probably from the stretch, my slider and curveball wasn't quite where I wanted it. That could be the thin air, it could be me and it could be a bunch of things."

The Reds' Derrick Robinson had three hits and scored three times out of the leadoff spot.

White Sox left fielder Dayan Viciedo, who tripled in a run during the third, left the game in the middle of the fourth inning because of a cramp in his right quadriceps, but he is expected to be back in action Wednesday.

Up next: The Reds will enjoy their final off-day of Spring Training on Wednesday. When play resumes Thursday, they will host the A's at 4:05 p.m. ET (aired live on a free reds.com audio webcast) at Goodyear Ballpark. Johnny Cueto will be making the start but one of the pitchers scheduled to come out of the bullpen should draw some extra attention. It will be right-hander Mark Prior, who is expected to come over from the Minor League camp to work one inning. Prior signed with the Reds on March 1 as he attempts a comeback attempt from 2007 shoulder surgery.
