Utility man becomes first Red Sox player to complete feat since 1996
Brock Holt pulled off one of the rarest offensive feats in all of baseball on Tuesday, hitting for the cycle in a 9-4 victory over the Braves.

From being the first Red Sox player in almost 20 years to hit for the cycle to being the first Braves opponent in nearly 30 years to do so, here are some of the most impressive facts and figures stemming from Holt's performance:
• Players to hit for the cycle
• Holt is the first Red Sox player to hit for the cycle since John Valentin on June 6, 1996, against the White Sox. Valentin got the hardest ones out of the way first, hitting a home run in his first at-bat, then a triple in his second. He then hit a single before doubling in the sixth inning to complete his cycle.
• Holt also became just the second Red Sox player to hit for the cycle out of the leadoff spot. The only leadoff hitter in franchise history to hit for the cycle prior to Holt was Leon Culberson, who accomplished the feat all the way back on July 3, 1943, against the Indians.
• Holt is the first leadoff hitter to complete the cycle since April 15, 2009, when then-Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler pulled it off. Kinsler went a whopping 6-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, a homer, four RBIs and five runs scored in a 19-6 rout over the Orioles.

• Holt's cycle is just the seventh in Interleague Play history and the first since the D-backs' Aaron Hill hit for the cycle against the Mariners on June 18, 2012. Holt is the first American League player to hit for the cycle against a National League opponent since Michael Cuddyer did so for the Twins on May 22, 2009, against the Brewers.
• Prior to Holt's performance, the Braves had not given up a cycle to an opposing hitter since 1985, by far the longest streak in the Majors. The second-longest streak without yielding a cycle belonged to the A's, who have not allowed one since 1995.
• Holt is the first player since Bengie Molina on July 16, 2010, to finish off the cycle with a triple in the eighth inning or later. Molina's eighth-inning triple for the Rangers -- against the Red Sox -- was one of just six triples that he hit during his 13-year career.

• That said, it's actually relatively common for hitters to save the triple for last en route to the cycle. Out of the 61 cycles since 2000, Holt's was the 24th to be completed by a three-bagger, meaning approximately 39.3 percent of all cycles during that span finished with a triple.
• Holt's cycle is the first of the 2015 season and already matches the total from all of 2014, a season in which Cuddyer picked up the lone cycle. The league record for most cycles in a single season is eight, set in 1933 and later matched in 2009.
