Dodgers claim Guilmet, designate Reed

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers claimed right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet from the Rays on Friday and optioned him to the Minor Leagues. To create room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles designated left-handed pitcher Chris Reed for assignment.

In another move, the Dodgers released veteran reliever Brandon League, who had been designated for assignment in the past week.

Guilmet had a 1.84 ERA in 23 combined appearances with Triple-A Buffalo (Toronto) and Triple-A Durham (Tampa Bay) this season. The 27-year-old earned recognition as an MiLB.com organization All-Star in 2012 and '13 with the Indians, as well as selections as a league All-Star at every level during his Minor League career.

Guilmet has gone 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in 17 big league appearances with Cleveland (2013), Baltimore ('14) and Tampa Bay ('15).

Reed, 25, was a first-round Draft pick out of Stanford in 2011 and signed for a $1.6 million bonus. He has gone 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA in 24 games with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.
