Turner no stranger to success in California
Dodgers infielder turned heads on the diamond in high school, college
Justin Turner, INF, Dodgers
Hometown: Long Beach, Calif.
Signing with the Dodgers marked a homecoming of sorts for Justin Turner, a Long Beach native and Cal State Fullerton alum.
Turner was a three-time first-team All-Suburban League player at Mayfair High School in Lakewood, Calif., and he won league MVP his senior season after batting .450 to lead Mayfair to a title.
His championship-winning ways weren't done after high school.
Turner had a stellar career as a Titan. He was an all-tournament shortstop in the 2003 College World Series, and he was part of the 2004 College World Series championship team that took down Texas -- a team that included future Dodgers teammate J.P. Howell.
Turner was drafted twice -- first in the 29th round by the Yankees in 2005 and then by the Reds in the seventh round the next year. He made the Dodgers as a non-roster invitee in Spring Training.
