Kemp ejected in ninth after arguing called strike three

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp was ejected by plate umpire Angel Hernandez on Friday night for arguing after being called out on strikes in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the score tied, 2-2, and one out, Kemp took a 1-2 pitch that Hernandez called on the outside corner for strike three. Kemp argued and was ejected before manager Don Mattingly made it out of the dugout.

"That's something we need to talk about internally," an annoyed Mattingly said. "We only have four guys [on the bench]."

The Dodgers are playing with a four-man bench in order to keep a 13-man pitching staff after short starts wore down the bullpen.

The ejection was the first of the season for the Dodgers and the seventh of Kemp's career.
