Fan dies after fall at Turner Field

Atlanta police say no indication of foul play

ATLANTA -- A man has died after falling approximately 65 feet from an upper-level platform at Turner Field into the players' parking lot on Monday night before the Braves' game against the Phillies, according to an emailed statement from Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee.

Officers responded to the situation at around 8:55 p.m. ET, after which time the man was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Chafee wrote that there was no indication of foul play and that the fall appeared accidental. The fan's identity has not been released.

The incident occurred during a rain delay that pushed back the first pitch by one hour, 48 minutes. During the game, the Braves released the following statement:

"There was an accident earlier tonight at Turner Field with a spectator falling from the upper level. The spectator has been transported to the hospital. The Atlanta Police Department are investigating and we refer all media inquiries to them at this time."
