Brandon Hyde's first day as Orioles manager

March 30, 2020

How truly excited I am to join the Baltimore Orioles family. It's a very special community, it's a town with rich tradition, and I cannot wait to be a part of it. Being named manager of the Orioles is a dream come true.

Brandon Hyde

Ushering in a new era of Orioles baseball, Brandon Hyde - the 20th manager in club history - was introduced to the media and fans Monday, December 17. On his walk into his first day, he was greeted by the club's and the city's rich history - from Babe's Dream through retired numbers and past the Orioles Hall of Fame.

He stopped on Eutaw Street to take in the view from center field. The ballpark has always held a special place in his heart - the first game he coached in the big leagues was played at OPACY - and now he calls it home.

Once inside the Warehouse, Hyde posed for headshots before heading down to the clubhouse.

Memories of World Championships and Orioles Legends echoed through the halls, as the new manager entered the clubhouse.

I understand the significance of this position, and I share your intense desire to put a winning team on the field for this great city and these great fans.

A new chapter in Orioles history is underway with a new manager at the helm.

After conducting an intensive search, I believe that we have found the ideal leader for the next era of Orioles baseball. Brandon's deep background in player development and Major League coaching, most recently helping to shape the Cubs into a World Champion, has thoroughly prepared him for this job and distinguished him throughout our interview process. I look forward to introducing him to our fans next week and to working together with him to build the next great Orioles team.

The rich tradition here. Brooks Robinson is sitting here. I'm in my new office, and there's pictures of Earl Weaver and Cal Ripken, Sr. I grew up a baseball rat. To be around history and be involved in a city like Baltimore, it's a dream come true, to be in the American League East and going out and competing every night.

And soon it became official. EVP and GM Mike Elias introduced new manager Brandon Hyde to the media and Baltimore fans, a day Hyde will remember forever.

What stood out throughout the entire process for me, for us, were Brandon's unique qualifications and experiences for this job. Being such a huge part of building the Cubs organization into a world champion and a playoff-caliber team was very attractive to me throughout this entire process.

I want an aggressive team that knows how to play smart - smart baseball, aggressive in the right moments, a grind out (every) at-bat type of attitude...

I'm proud to be an Oriole and I can't wait to get to work.
