Garr, Snyder to represent Braves at Draft

Former outfielder, long-time scout will relay Atlanta's picks to MLB

Former outfielder Ralph Garr and legendary scout Paul Snyder will represent the Braves at the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Garr played the first eight seasons of his 13-year Major League career with the Braves from 1968-75. Nicknamed "Road Runner" for his speed, he stole 137 bases and notched three 200-hit seasons over that span before spending the back half of his career with the White Sox and Angels. His 214 hits and .353 batting average in 1974 led the National League and helped him earn his only All-Star selection.

Snyder spent the entirety of his 50-year professional baseball career with the Braves organization, first joining the front office in 1973 and rising to serve stints as the team's amateur scouting director, director of player development and assistant to the general manager during Atlanta's string of division titles in the 1990s and early 2000s. Earlier this month, Snyder learned he will be inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame on June 14.

Because the Braves signed B.J. Upton this winter, they lost their first-round selection, but with Michael Bourn exiting via free agency, they will receive a compensation pick, which will be the 31st overall selection, two slots later than their original pick. Garr and Snyder will be charged with relaying the Braves selection to MLB officials before the pick is announced by Commissioner Bud Selig.
