Memorial honored life of MLBPA founding executive director
In addition to Miller's daughter Susan and son Peter, current players, including Andrew Bailey, Bill Bray, Craig Breslow, Adam Ottavino and Micah Owings, and former players, including Chris Chambliss, David Cone, Steve Garvey, Keith Hernandez, Reggie Jackson and Jim Kaat, members of the baseball community, labor leaders and the general public heard from a number of players instrumental in helping Miller establish the MLBPA as the labor force it remains today.
Hosted by MLBPA executive director Michael Weiner, speakers sharing their reflections and recollections of Miller included Jim Bouton (Major Leaguer, 1962-78); Murray Chass (former national baseball reporter for The New York Times); Tony Clark, MLBPA director of player relations (Major Leaguer, 1995-2009); Don Fehr, executive director, NHLPA & former MLBPA executive director; Phil Garner (Major Leaguer, 1973-88); Dr. Charles Korr, author & Professor Emeritus, University of Missouri-St. Louis; Buck Martinez (Major Leaguer, 1969-86); Hall of Famer Joe Morgan (Major Leaguer, 1963-84); Dick Moss, former MLBPA general counsel; Steve Renko (Major Leaguer, 1969-83); Steve Rogers, MLBPA special assistant (Major Leaguer, 1973-85); Rusty Staub (Major Leaguer, 1963-85); and Hall of Famer Dave Winfield (Major Leaguer, 1973-95.)
