Futures Game MVP Davidson wins Triple-A Derby

Day after starring at Citi Field, D-backs prospect takes title on home field in Reno

In what can only be described as a crazy 24 hours, Reno Aces third baseman Matt Davidson, ranked No. 2 among the D-backs' top prospects, not only won Futures Game MVP honors, but the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby.

After winning the MVP award Sunday in New York, Davidson flew all night to make it to Reno, Nev., for the Derby.

"I got up around 4 p.m., got some food and headed over here. I worked out a little bit, tried to get my blood going," Davidson told MiLB.com. "It's been a whirlwind. I'm excited to get some sleep tonight, that's for sure. I wasn't here trying to win it. I was just having a good time."

Hitting four blasts in the final round, the D-backs prospect totaled 11 home runs in the competition, which lasted three rounds.

Davidson secured MVP honors in Sunday's game with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win for the United States over the World team.
