It is the first Silver SluggerTM Award for Stanton, who led the National League in home runs (37) and slugging percentage (.555) this season, and was second in the Senior Circuit with a career-high 105 RBI. It is the third major postseason award for Stanton this fall; he has also won the NL's Hank Aaron Award as the league's best offensive player, and the Players Choice Award as the NL's Outstanding Player.

Stanton, who was named to his second NL All-Star team this summer, is also one of three finalists for the National League Most Valuable Player Award, which will be announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America on November 13.

He is the fifth Marlin ever to win a Silver SluggerTM Award, joining Gary Sheffield (1993 & '96), Mike Lowell (2003), Miguel Cabrera (2005 & '06) and Hanley Ramirez (2008 & '09).

The Silver SluggerTM Award winners represent the best offensive producers at each position in both the American and National Leagues. Winners are determined by a vote of Major League managers and coaches based on a combination of offensive statistics, including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as general impressions of overall offensive value. Managers and coaches were not allowed to vote for players on their own teams, and tabulation was verified by the accounting firm of Mountjoy Chilton Medley LLP.
