It's always great to see when a ballplayer has a good head on his shoulders and maintains a grounded perspective.
Chase Headley and his wife, Casey, display just that with their new "Headley's Heroes" initiative.
Headley spent part of his day Friday at Rady Children's Hospital, visiting with kids in the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders unit.
"Headley's Heroes" officially kicked off Sunday at Petco Park when Headley and the Padres hosted four-year-old leukemia patient Boyd Stockmeyer for a dream day at the park. This included getting to hang out in the dugout and meet players before the game and field-level tickets.
"We're playing a game for a living and these kids are going through some tough things. Anything we can do to help, is great. It's a great thing to be a part of," Headley said. "It's a little way of saying thank you, a way to give back and a way to integrate ourselves with the San Diego community."
