Hernandez, Vaughn to represent at Draft
Tampa Bay holds the 25th pick in the first round, the 88th overall pick in the second round and the 119th overall pick in the third. Commissioner Bud Selig will announce each pick in the first round with the team's representatives sitting at the club's table phoning in the pick.
Hernandez, a closer, signed with the Devil Rays as a free agent in 1998. In his first season with the club, he pitched in 71 1/3 innings with a 4.04 ERA and 26 saves. He improved the next season earning his second career All-Star appearance, pitching 73 1/3 innings with a 3.07 ERA and earned a career-high 43 saves.
Vaughn has been with the team since before its first game, dating back to 1996. He received the Robert O. Fishel Award for Public Relations Excellence at the 2003 Winter Meetings. Before joining the Rays, Vaughn spent 10 years working in public relations for the Baltimore Orioles.
Past Rays draft picks include Evan Longoria in 2006 and David Price in 2007.
The annual First-Year Player Draft takes place this year from June 4-6, beginning with the first round and Comp Round A on Monday, June 4, at 7 p.m. ET. The first night of the event will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com. Rounds 2-40 will also be streamed live on MLB.com on June 5-6.
