Hot Stove roundup: Back to the Bay for Hudson

Is this the week baseball's Hot Stove starts sizzling? Well, if Monday was any indication, it certainly seems it could be. Although the market's biggest names saw no reported progress toward any potential deals, a slew of mid-range signings highlighted Monday's news cycle.

• Tim Hudson is heading back to the Bay Area, only this time he'll be wearing the orange and black of the San Francisco Giants. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the deal is worth $23 million for two years. At 38 years old, Hudson wasn't the most sought-after arm on the market, but there's no denying his value. A strong clubhouse presence, Hudson posted 16 wins in both 2011 and '12 for Atlanta, but he had his '13 season cut short by a gruesome ankle injury.

• The last time LaTroy Hawkins spent a season with Colorado, the Rockies won the National League pennant. Now it appears Hawkins will be getting a second go-round in the Mile High City, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding. Assuming the right-hander passes a physical, he is expected to receive $2.25 million in 2014. Hawkins, who posted a 2.93 ERA and made 72 appearances with the Mets last season, will likely compete with left-hander Rex Brothers for the closer role.

• Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, the hottest commodity on the market, reportedly still hasn't budged from his asking price of a 10-year, $310 million contract, ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand reported.

• The Phillies and veteran catcher Carlos Ruiz agreed to a three-year deal on Monday. According to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, the contract will be worth $26 million with a $4.5 million club option for 2017. Ruiz could potentially make another $500,000 per season if he starts 125 games.

• The Rangers reportedly have their eyes on former Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Monday. According to Heyman, Texas has backed out of the Jacoby Ellsbury sweepstakes, with Choo as the Rangers' top focus in terms of outfield help.

• Veteran right-hander Bronson Arroyo said the Angels, Phillies, Dodgers, Giants, Twins and possibly the Orioles have reached out to his agent but none has extended an offer. Speaking in an interview on MLB Network Radio, Arroyo said he is seeking a three-year deal.

"I feel like I've given any team that I've ever played for their money's worth," Arroyo said in the interview. "And so I really would like somebody to come further than two years and give me a three-year deal. I feel like I've got plenty left in the tank for that."

• The Reds and utility man Skip Schumaker agreed to a two-year deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com. The terms of the contract, which is pending a physical, remain undisclosed.

• The Orioles signed left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz to a one-year deal on Monday. The 25-year-old southpaw, who spent last season with the Dodgers' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, held lefty hitters to a .217/.298/.261 slash line in the Minors.
