Hot Stove roundup: Mets talk interest in Drew

By Sunday, pitchers and catchers on all 30 teams will have reported to Spring Training, yet the Hot Stove remains burning with some pivotal unanswered questions.

Of the 13 free agents who rejected a qualifying offer, five remain unsigned, including shortstop Stephen Drew, who spent last season with Boston.

Throughout the offseason, the Mets have been at the forefront of rumors surrounding Drew, but little definitive progress has been made. Still, general manager Sandy Alderson told New York radio station WFAN that the Mets are willing to sign Drew, "under the right circumstances."

Drew hit .253 with a .777 OPS last season. He struggled offensively in the playoffs, but came up with a few defensive gems in some pivotal moments.

In other Hot Stove news Tuesday:

• The Dodgers and closer Kenley Jansen avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $4.3 million. Jansen's signing means the Dodgers have settled with all of their arb-eligible players.

• The Yankees introduced prized signing Masahiro Tanaka, who chartered a Boeing 787 jet and arrived in style from Japan. The 25-year-old right-hander took the podium at Yankee Stadium's Legends Club and said, "Hello. My name is Masahiro Tanaka. I'm very happy to be a Yankee."

• Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis said he is interested in exploring the possibility of a long-term contract with the club. Kipnis made his first All-Star team last season and finished the year hitting .284 with 17 homers.

• On the eve of the report date for Mariners pitchers and catchers, Seattle added a pair of arms in left-hander Randy Wolf and right-hander Zach Miner. Both contracts are Minor League deals with invites to Major League Spring Training, and both are pending physicals.

• The Marlins made their signing of veteran right-hander Carlos Marmol official on Tuesday afternoon.

• Three-time All-Star Roy Oswalt made his retirement official on Tuesday. Oswalt, like former teammate Lance Berkman, plans to sign a one-day contract with Houston to retire as an Astro.
