Ichiro scores his 2,000th professional run
Outfielder scores his 1,342nd run in Majors, had 658 in nine seasons in Japan
ATLANTA -- Ichiro Suzuki provided more than an important insurance run in the eighth inning of the Marlins' 4-0 win on Monday night over the Braves at Turner Field. The 41-year-old reached another impressive milestone.
The run was the 2,000th of his professional career, including 1,342 in the big leagues and 658 during his nine seasons in Japan.
Ichiro is receiving regular playing time with the Marlins, and he is still is productive.
His latest achievement was a big part of the game for Miami.
With two outs in the eighth inning, he drew a walk off Matt Marksberry. Martin Prado doubled to right-center, and Ichiro scored standing up.
In MLB history, just seven players have scored as many as 2,000 runs -- Rickey Henderson (2,295), Ty Cobb (2,244), Barry Bonds (2,227), Hank Aaron (2,174), Babe Ruth (2,174), Pete Rose (2,165) and Willie Mays (2,062).
Alex Rodriguez is primed to be the eighth, as he is at 1,988.
