Ike follows in dad's big league footsteps

Ike Davis was preceded in the big leagues by his father, Ron, who pitched for five teams in his 11-year career. From a young age, the younger Davis seemed destined to follow in his dad's Major League footsteps. The first baseman played for the U.S. national team as a 17-year-old at the 2004 Junior Championships, helping it win a gold medal.

Davis graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2005, and he was drafted that year by Tampa Bay in the 19th round. He opted instead to attend Arizona State University.

Davis played for the Sun Devils for three seasons, earning first-team All-Pac 10 selections each year. During his junior season in 2008, he hit .385 and was a first-team All-America selection.
