Indians Acquire LHP Marc Rzepczynski from St. Louis

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has acquired LHP MARC RZEPCZYNSKI (zep-CHIN-skee) from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Minor League INF JUAN HERRERA.

Rzepczynski, 27, has compiled a Major League record of 9-17 with a 4.20 ERA in 177 games/23 starts between the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals since debuting with the Jays in 2009. In his big league career lefties have hit .224 (73-326, .607OPS) off him. His best season came in 2011 between Toronto and STL, posting a combined ERA of 3.34 (62.0IP, 50H, 23ER, 61K) in 71 games while tossing 2.2 scoreless innings (4K) in the 2011 World Series for the eventual champs.

The Anaheim, CA native has split 2013 between St. Louis and Triple-A Memphis. In two stints with the Cardinals he has posted a 7.84 ERA in 11 games (10.1IP, 16H, 9R/ER) and at AAA Memphis he has posted an ERA of 3.07 (44.0IP, 44H, 15ER, 31K), limiting lefties to a .185 (12-65) average against for the Redbirds.

Herrera has appeared in 39 games at Short-Season A Mahoning Valley this summer.
