Indians and Rockies complete trade

CLEVELAND, OH  -  The Cleveland Indians today announced the acquisition of RHP KEVIN SLOWEY and cash considerations from the Rockies in exchange for RHP ZACH PUTNAM.

Slowey, 27, split the season between Triple-A Rochester and the Major League club making 14 appearances in Minnesota, including 8 starts, and spent time on the Disabled List.  On December 6th, 2011, Minnesota traded Slowey to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Daniel Turpen.  Six days later, he agreed to a one-year deal to avoid arbitration.

The right-hander has a career Major League record of 39-29 with a 4.66 ERA (532.2IP, 606H, 276ER, 395SO) in five big league seasons. He won a career high 13 games as a member of the Minnesota Twins in 2010 and posted a career best 3.99 ERA in 27 starts, including 3 complete games and 2 shutouts for the Twins in 2008. His 4.70 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks 3rd among major League starters since coming into the league in '07 behind Roy Halladay (5.30) and Cliff Lee (4.86). Slowey is 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA (24.0IP, 30H, 7ER, 24SO) in 4 starts in his career at Progressive Field. He was selected 73rd overall in the 2nd round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins.
