Indians Sign OF Jeremy Hermida to Minor League Contract

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that the club has signed free agent OF JEREMY HERMIDA to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Hermida, 29, has batted .257 (517-2012) with 104 doubles, 65 home runs and 250 RBI over 632 games in his Major League career, appearing with the Florida (2002-09), Boston (2010), Oakland (2010), Cincinnati (2011) and San Diego (2011-12) organizations.  He split the 2012 campaign between San Diego's Major League club and Triple-A Tucson, but was limited to fewer than 60 combined games due to a strained left adductor muscle and hip flexor.  Hermida was originally selected by the Marlins in the first round (11th overall) of the 2002 June draft.

With this transaction, the Indians now have 61 players in Major League camp, including 21 non-roster invitees.
