Weaver at home in the California sun

Jered Weaver, RHP, Angels
Hometown: Northridge, Calif.

It doesn't take long to realize Weaver has spent most of his life in Southern California.

From his long, light-brown hair and his scruffy beard to his usual flip flops, Weaver looks the part of a California lifer. The 31-year-old right-hander attended Simi Valley High School before becoming an All-American and first-round Draft pick at Long Beach State. He posted one of the best seasons in college baseball history in 2004, going 15-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 213 strikeouts in 144 innings. He won the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Trophy and Roger Clemens Award that season.

Weaver, the Angels' longtime ace, grew up competing in the backyard with his brother, Jeff. Jeff Weaver, who is six years older than Jered, went on to pitch 11 seasons in the Majors, accumulating 104 wins.
