Play-by-play man Davis joins Dodgers' TV team

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Dodgers have added play-by-play broadcaster Joe Davis to their 2016 television announcing team, which will be led for a 67th and final season by Hall of Famer Vin Scully.

Davis will call 50 games road television games on SportsNet LA with Orel Hershiser, Nomar Garciaparra and Alanna Rizzo. Charley Steiner will handle the television play-by-play for the remaining road television games, and when he isn't doing television, Steiner will team with Rick Monday to handle the Dodgers' radio broadcasts on AM 570 LA Sports Radio.

"Joe Davis has put together an outstanding play-by-play resume," said Dodgers executive vice president and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen. "We are thrilled to have one of the top young sports broadcast talents in the nation join our great television team."

Davis, 27, comes to the Dodgers' booth from FOX Sports, where he has announced Pac-12 and Big 12 sports, as well as regional MLB games.

Davis, a Michigan native, was captain of the Beloit (Wis.) College football team, where he quarterbacked for two seasons until suffering a shoulder injury, then transitioned to wide receiver. During the football offseasons, he announced the school's baseball and basketball games on local stations. Davis graduated with a B.A. in communications and a minor in journalism.

Since graduating in 2010, Davis has handled baseball play-by-play for the independent Schaumburg Flyers and the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits, a farm team of the Tampa Bay Rays when they were run by current Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.

Davis' fast track to the Major Leagues has included stints with Comcast Sports Southeast, ESPN, ESPN Radio and FOX Sports. At age 25, he became the youngest person to announce a bowl game (2013 Poinsettia Bowl) for ESPN.

Davis' father, Paul, coached his son for Potterville High School's football team and is in the Michigan Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

Davis joins Scully, Steiner, Garciaparra, Hershiser, Rizzo and Jerry Hairston on the television broadcast team.
