Abreu, Prince named AL Co-Players of Week

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu and Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder have been named the American League Co-Players of the Week after pacing the league in offense from Sept. 14-20.

Abreu hit .458 (11-for-24) with three runs, two doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs in six games. Fielder hit .308 (8-for-26) with nine runs, three homers and nine RBIs in seven contests. Fielder led the AL in runs, and the two were tied for the AL lead in RBIs.

It is Abreu's third career weekly honor (last coming August 2) and Fielder's sixth (last on April 4, 2013, with the Tigers).

Abreu is the first player in White Sox history to record 25 homers and 30 doubles in each of his first two seasons, and he's on pace to join Albert Pujols as the only other player in MLB history with 30-plus homers and 100-plus RBIs in his first two seasons. Abreu's 65 home runs are the second most by a White Sox player in his first two full seasons (Ron Kittle hit 67 in 1983-84), and his 202 RBIs in his first two years are tied with Zeke Bonura (1934-35) for the record.

This week, Fielder hit his 18th career go-ahead home run in the eighth inning or later, and he also recorded his 27th multihomer game.
