Kippins: Join Me in Pledging NL

The 2012 MLB All-Star Game is right around the corner. Soon we will watch the National League’s best players take it to those American Leaguers and earn the right to have home field advantage in this year’s World Series. Now what I can’t understand is why the current standings in the 2012 All-Star Game pledge are telling me that the American League has more support. Are you kidding me? Everyone knows the NL is the superior league. And for those of you who are CLEARLY delusional, let me tell you why.

1. OUR PITCHERS HIT: Wake up, people. There’s nothing better than seeing your pitcher come up in a big spot and come through and “help himself” by getting a base knock. Unless of course he hits a HOME RUN. I believe it was none other than Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux who made an awesome and hilarious commercial with the tagline, “Chicks Dig The Long Ball!” PITCHERS HITTING RULES!

2. STRATEGY: I’m pretty sure most AL players have no idea what a double-switch is. In fact, just the other day when the Yankees played at Washington, Joe Girardi came out to make a double-switch and it turned into a scene from “A Night At The Roxbury,” with the players all pointing at each other trying to figure out what was going on. C’mon now, the fact that you can bring relievers into the game at any point and leave them in for multiple innings without having to consider where they are is just mindless. The NL is much more strategic and intricate, not just see ball, hit ball like an AL neanderthal.

3. SMALL BALL: Given the fact that we do have pitchers hitting AND we are strategic, we don’t rely on home runs for all of our scoring, we scratch them out the old fashioned way. FUNDAMENTALS: Bunting, moving the runner over on a ground ball, squeezes plays. The way it was meant to be!
