Farnsworth signs Minor League deal with Mets

The Mets and right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth have agreed to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training, the club announced on Monday.

Farnsworth, who turns 38 in April, pitched for the Rays and Pirates in 2013, combining to post a 4.70 ERA in 48 appearances.

The 15-year veteran went 5-1 with a 2.18 ERA in 63 appearances for Tampa Bay in 2011, but he struggled in 2012, with a 4.00 ERA. The Rays released him in August 2013, and he signed with the Pirates five days later.

Farnsworth has a 4.26 career ERA over stints with the Cubs, Tigers, Braves, Yankees, Royals, Rays and Pirates.
