Lineup breakdown: Tigers-A's, Game 1

A look at Friday's starting lineups for Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Tigers and the Athletics:

TIGERS

1. Austin Jackson, CF -- Jackson usually dictates the pace for how the offense will play. When the Tigers win, he's batting .319 with a .503 slugging percentage while he's only hitting .195 with a .276 slugging percentage in losses.

2. Torii Hunter, RF -- The 38-year-old is back in the postseason for the first time since 2009. Hunter hit .462 against Oakland this season with three home runs and six RBIs.

3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B -- The biggest question mark for the Tigers offense is how well Cabrera can swing the bat. After hitting .356 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs in August, he only had two extra-base hits in 72 at-bats during September.

4. Prince Fielder, 1B -- Fielder is coming off one of his best months of the season, batting .337 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in September. Though he has a strong track record against Bartolo Colon, going 4-for-7 with a homer, he's only batting .183 in 104 postseason at-bats throughout his career.

5. Victor Martinez, DH -- Martinez led the Majors with 91 hits and .361 batting average following the All-Star break. During a four-game set against Oakland in August, he went 11-for-16 with a home run.

6. Alex Avila, C -- Avila has struggled in the postseason, and has the lowest batting average (.129) among active players with at least 50 postseason at-bats, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. However, he's been good against Colon, going 4-for-8 in his career with two home runs.

7. Omar Infante, 2B -- Infante's .318 batting average in the regular season would have ranked fourth in the AL but he fell 26 plate appearances shy of qualifying. He hit .353 with six runs scored in last year's ALDS against the A's.

8. Andy Dirks, LF -- Dirks ended the year in a 1-for-17 skid, but he has good history against Colon, going 4-for-8 with a home run. He will be in a platoon with Jhonny Peralta in left field throughout the ALDS.

9. Jose Iglesias, SS -- While Iglesias is known for dazzling in the field, he's still looking to regain his timing at the plate after missing a week in September with a bruised left hand.

ATHLETICS

1. Coco Crisp, CF -- Crisp displayed his power in September, bashing seven home runs and driving in 19 runs. He also led the team with 21 stolen bases this season, and could get plenty of opportunities against a Tigers team that allowed the third-most stolen bases in the Majors (128).

2. Jed Lowrie, SS -- Lowrie dominated against the Tigers in August, going 8-for-17 with four doubles, a homer and six RBIs over their four game series. He will be playing in his first postseason game since 2009.

3. Josh Donaldson, 3B -- Donaldson ended his breakthrough season on a strong note, batting .337 with five home runs, 16 RBIs and a 1.049 OPS in September. However, he's 1-for-8 with three strikeouts against Max Scherzer in his career.

4. Brandon Moss, DH -- Moss tortured the Tigers during their four-game set in August, going 7-for-14 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. He continued on to hit .275 with five homers and 19 RBIs after that series.

5. Yoenis Cespedes, LF -- Cespedes has been limited to just three innings of defense in the past two weeks due his ailing right shoulder, but it hasn't affected him at the plate. In September, he was batting .314 with six home runs and 19 RBIs.

6. Josh Reddick, RF -- Although it has been an up and down season for Reddick, the 26-year-old hopes to carry momentum into the postseason after hitting .304 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in September.

7. Stephen Vogt, C -- Vogt hit .265 with two home runs and seven RBIs in September, but his main focus will be on catching Colon in his first career playoff game.

8. Daric Barton, 1B -- Barton has made the most of his latest promotion to the big leagues, batting .301 with two home runs and 13 RBIs since being called up in late August.

9. Eric Sogard, 2B -- Sogard, who is 3-for-5 in his career against Scherzer, earned the starting nod over the switch-hitting Alberto Callaspo. Sogard went 6-for-19 (.316) with 3 RBIs in the last week of the season.
