Cain drops appeal, starts serving suspension

KANSAS CITY -- Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain dropped his appeal of a two-game suspension and began serving it Sunday.

Cain, who will be eligible to return Wednesday against the Indians, was suspended for his part in an in-game altercation with the White Sox on April 23.

"[MLB] sent me the video," Cain said before Sunday's game against Detroit, "... Pretty much everybody said I had no chance [with the appeal]."

Manager Ned Yost used Jarrod Dyson in the lineup on Sunday in center. Dyson likely will play there again Tuesday.

"We got a short bench, just two men," Yost said. "But [Orlando] Calixte could play outfield in an emergency."

Cain said he believes the Royals' fighting days are over.

"I definitely think it's past us," he said.

Cain said his friends and family watched the video of him scuffling with White Sox right-hander Jeff Samardzija.

"They were pretty surprised," Cain said. "They never seen me like that. It takes a lot to get me mad."
