Cain is day to day with right knee contusion

CHICAGO -- Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain left Wednesday night's 5-3 win in 10 innings after hitting a ball off his right knee in the seventh inning at U.S. Cellular Field.

Cain fouled a pitch from White Sox starter Jose Quintana and the ball bounced back up off his knee. Cain immediately went to the ground and was examined by trainer Nick Kenney.

Cain stayed in the game to finish his at-bat, a groundout. He then left the game and was replaced by Jarrod Dyson in center.

The Royals said Cain has a right knee contusion and is day to day. X-rays taken after the game were negative.

"It's always a little scary when it's the knee," manager Ned Yost said. "If it's the shin or the thigh, it's usually OK. But the knee can be scary."
