D-backs Luke Wrenn to be inducted into Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame tomorrow
PHOENIX - Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) Area Scout Luke Wrenn will be inducted into the Killebrew Root Beer Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame tomorrow at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla. Wrenn will be the 11th inductee into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame, joining current D-backs Special Assistant to Baseball Operations Mike Russell, who was inducted in 2013.
The Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame honor is bestowed upon scouts who are at the foundation of player development and recognizes their tireless work ethic and contributions to the game of baseball. Each inductee is commemorated with a bronze plaque on the Scout's Wall at Hammond Stadium.
Wrenn is in his 31st season as a scout and 15th with the D-backs (2001-current), where he serves as an area scout in Central and Northern Florida. He previously worked as an area scout for the Red Sox (1990-99) and Mariners (1984-89). He is credited with signing first-round selections Tino Martinez (1988), Nomar Garciaparra (1994) and Stephen Drew (2004), as well as Mike Hampton (1990), David Eckstein (1997) and Mike Maroth (1998).
Wrenn played 5 Minor League seasons in the Pittsburgh (1973-77) and San Diego (1977) systems. He was the 1975 Carolina League Most Valuable Player with Single-A Salem. He was the Pirates' 37th-round selection in the 1972 draft.
