Mariano Rivera E:60

Mariano Rivera. The name denotes dominance, athletics and the essence of baseball. All of that is captured in an episode of ESPN: 60, where they go behind-the-scenes with the 19-year MLB veteran and Yankees closer. Rivera admits he almost quit the game after tearing his ACL last spring, but realized “[he] couldn’t leave like this.” He explains what it feels like to both successfully close a World Series and to fail to do so, as happened in 2001. He discusses how his splitter was discovered by accident and how his hands got strong to throw it building fishing nets growing up.

Rivera describes his journey from a boy who tossed rocks on white sands in Puerto Caminito, Panama to closing games with the Yankees using the same adjective baseball fans would describe him – “Incredible.”
