Mariners acquire outfielder Austin Jackson from Detroit
Send infielder Nick Franklin to Tampa Bay as part of three-team deal
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced that the Mariners have acquired outfielder Austin Jackson from the Detroit Tigers and have sent infielder Nick Franklin to Tampa Bay as part of three-team deal.
Jackson, 27, will wear #16 and join the Mariners in time for their series in Baltimore starting tomorrow at Oriole Park.
The right-hander was hitting .273 (102x374) with 52 runs, 25 doubles, 5 triples, 4 home runs and 33 RBI in 100 games with the Tigers. Against left-handed pitching this season he is hitting .330 (33x100) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 7 RBI, a .397 on-base percentage and an .851 OPS.
Over his last 48 games since June 5 is hitting .314 (58x185) and in July is hitting .349 (38x109) with 18 runs, 10 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, 11 RBI and an .894 OPS in 26 games.
He entered the day tied for the American League lead with 8 sacrifice flies and sixth with 5 triples.
In five Major League seasons, all with Detroit, he is hitting .277 (743x2678) with 447 runs, 140 doubles, 43 triples, 46 home runs and 234 RBI in 670 career games. He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 8th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He was traded to Detroit in December of 2009 in a three-team, seven-player trade that included Arizona.
Franklin, 23, hit .294 (82x279) with 45 runs scored, 16 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs and 47 RBI in 75 games this season with AAA Tacoma. He also appeared in 17 games over two stints with Seattle in 2014 (4/16-23 and 5/20-6/2), batting .128 (6x47) with 3 runs scored, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 3 walks and 1 stolen base.
